Bissell Carpet Cleaner Review and Tips

Recently I made the move to get a carpet cleaner.

We have two dogs and I had gotten so tired of the smell of dog.  It didn't seem to matter whether I had candles lit, plug-ins in the walls, had just cleaned, used febreeze etc. I would still smell dog whether they were around or not. I am a clean freak and it got to the point where I could not enjoy my "relax time" on the couch because this smell made me feel like my house wasn't clean enough. That's when I decided to purchase a carpet cleaner so I could clean the house even deeper to where the dirt and "dog smell" is on the carpet. I love these two cuties SO MUCH but I don't want to smell them all over my clean house...

After a ton of research I decided to go with the Bissell Proheat 2X Max Clean Pet Pro. I had researched many other carpet cleaners but went with this one because a) it has an upholstery attachment so I can also use it on the couch and stairs and b) it is made to come apart to clean.

There are three different modes on the machine which are "express clean" "deep clean" and "max clean." I used the "max clean" setting for the first clean and now use the "express clean" on a monthly basis and as needed to clean and freshen the carpet up.

The machine is very easy to use, you fill it up to the marking with hot water and then to the next line marked "formula" with the carpet cleaning solution of you choice.

I am a huge fan of this pet odor eliminating solution by Bissell . It smells fantastic and really got rid of the odors that were on my carpet. This actually came as a sample with the machine when I purchased it on Amazon. I have also made my own carpet cleaning solution with OxyClean and Fabuloso which works well (and who doesn't love the smell of fabulouso?!). recently, I discovered OdoBan and this is what I have added as a "carpet cleaning solution" to freshen up my carpets. It smells great! It literally gets rid of the dog smell while sanitizing the carpets. Even after the OdoBan smell wears off it still doesn't smell like dog because the OdoBan actually gets rid of the smell instead of just covering it up.

After deciding which cleaning solution to use and filling up the reservoir you easily slide it into the vacuum and you are ready to go. The machine has a very long chord that was able to reach across my living room no problem so I wasn't needing to move it around to another outlet. It is a light weight machine so that I was able to use it with just one hand. I found that going at a normal speed that I would normally vacuum at worked just fine and I didn't need to go super slow. I would do 2 sweeps over the carpet with the botton pushed down to spray the carpets and then 2 sweeps without pushing it to allow the machine to suck up the dirty liquid into the bottom reservoir. When doing the max clean I had to refill the top reservoir about 3 times, on the faster setting I only had to fill it up once and still have some cleaning solution left in my top reservoir to do there rooms.

After cleaning the carpets I turn the fan on and let it dry while making sure my dogs stay outside or in a different room because I worry about them being around any sort of cleaning solution before it dries. The carpets take about 30-60 minutes to dry on the lower setting and about 8 hours to dry on the "max clean" setting. Due to the quicker dry time I normally use the lower setting which freshens up my carpets just as well as "max clean"would.

My favorite part of the process is emptying the dirty reservoir which shows all of the dirt that came off the carpet. I feel like I keep my house quite clean the doggies paws off before they come inside, so I am always SHOCKED when I see how much dirty water still comes off my carpets!

There is cleaning that needs to be done for the machine as well, but like I said, this machine by Bissell is my pick because it is so easy to take apart and clean! Also, look at all this dog hair and dirt that got pulled out of the carpet!! 😳 I will write a separate blog post in the future on how to clean the machine so that it is nice and fresh for the next time, stay tuned!

Main Points:
1) Use pet odor eliminating solution by Bissell for cleaning/ stain removal using the "max clean" function
2) Use OdoBan if you just want to freshen up the carpets and remove odors/ sanitize using the faster function
3)Sweep over the carpets a total of 4 times (2 while spraying and 2 without spraying) while cleaning
5) Feel satisfied when you see all the grossness that will come off your carpets!
4) Allow carpets to dry before allowing pets or people to walk on them
